Located in the heart of the world-famous Mont Blanc region, Les Contamines is one of the world’s most snowsure resorts. With 120 km of uncrowded pistes – between 1200 and 2500m – there is superb ski-ing for all levels. It has special features for snowboarding, and excellent, safe, off-piste access.
The lifts are a few minutes drive from the chalet:
There are two lift stations and two large car parks (one giant one) where it’s easy to find a spot, even if you amble along at 9am. The car parks are designed to make it easy for the people from neighbouring resorts to drive over to Les Contamines when their resort runs out of snow (April!). Les Contamines’ snow-sure reputation is well-deserved.
There are several cosy and welcoming mountain restaurants to sample the local dishes. La Grange on the Hauteluce side is one of our favourites. La Roselette and Col du Joly on the Les Contamines side are also good, as is the less cosy, larger restaurant at l’Etape.
Les Contamines has a “hands-free” lift pass system, and also offers family passes and passes for non-consecutive days, for those who don’t want to ski every day. As well as ski-ing and snowboarding, the village offers ski de fond (cross country or Langlauf), guided snow-shoe (‘raquette’) expeditions, ice-skating and dog-sledding.
For the more adventurous skiers, the breathtaking Vallee Blanche above Chamonix and the famous Les Grands Montets glacier at Argentiere are within easy reach. Indeed, none of the 14 resorts of the Mont Blanc Region are more than a 10 to 40 minute drive away. For those that like to ski off-piste for more than a day at a time, the beautiful Beaufortain region is accessed via the upper ski lifts of the les Contamines ski area, where it adjoins the Hauteluce ski area.
